City Lodge Sukhumvit 19 Hotel

City Lodge Sukhumvit 19 is right next to Terminal 21 Mall
The City Lodge Sukhumvit 19 is a perfect example of a no joiner fee hotel in a perfect convenient location next to everything and anything a single guy needs for short and long term stay near Bangkok's popular red light districts.

There are many guest friendly hotels on Sukhumvit road close to Asoke BTS station and in easy walking distance to the go go bars of Soi Cowboy and Nana Plaza. This hotel is one of them.

The main perks of staying at this hotel is the location. It's a small hotel, only a little more than 30 rooms. There is no swimming pool and no gym. Only free Wi-Fi which is what most travelers really need. It's billed as a 3 star hotel but I honestly think it deserves 2 stars.

As the hotel's name suggest City Lodge is right where Soi 19 begins. It's an easy address to find because you simply can't miss it with the new Terminal 21 shopping mall next door. So anyone with the worst skills in directions shouldn't have a hard time at all finding it.

Taxis from the airport will know how to get to City Lodge 19 with no problems since the location is so popular. A taxi from the airport should cost little more than 300 Baht, depending on traffic. And you can use the Airport Express Train to Makkasan station and transfer to the Petchburi MRT station and take a 1 stop ride to Sukhumvit MRT station for a much cheaper alternative.

City Lodge 19 is not a new hotel and yes it has seen a lot of wear and tear. But after a recent taker over by a big hotel conglomerate called the Amari group, the hotel has made a real turnaround since then.

There were no major renovations done however so the hotel style is dated.  But you can see from the video review of a deluxe room at the hotel is clean and spacious.

But what really makes the City Lodge 19 perfect for a single guy out on the prowl is the closeness to a lot of male adult entertainment. As I mentioned go go bars are not not far if your intentions are to bar fine a bar girl from Soi Cowboy which is only a 5 minute walk across the Sukhumvit and Asoke road junction. Nana Plaza's go go bars can be reached in a little more than 10 minutes.

Thai Freelancers are not a problem to find either. They are right on Sukhumvit road on the same side as the hotel. Matter of fact you'll find a few Thai prostitutes right outside the Westin Grande Hotel. But I have to warn you that the Thai hookers on Sukhumvit road are a bit rough around the edges

For better lookers walk a little further down to Soi 15 and you'll hit Thermae Bar and Coffee, right outside the Ruamchitt Plaza Hotel. Right around 10pm you will find a cluster of Thai freelancers just standing around. Head downstairs and inside the Thermae and you'll find a whole lot more especially on a weekend.

I even saw a prostitute inside the hotel's tiny lobby too. Don't get offended ladies, but I can pick a prostitute out from a regular Thai Jane any day. But it was obvious she was there to hook since City Lodge 19 is a girl friendly hotel so punters don't have to pay joiner fees.

And if you are a fan of Bangkok's soapy massage parlors there is one close to the hotel on Sukhumvit Soi 12 called Darlings Massage. But in my opinion it's best to head up to the Huay Kwang district for soapies for better lookers.

Asoke BTS Station - Just a few minutes from City Lodge 19
So the hotel is a pretty good place to stay close to Sukhumvit's nightlife. Though I think the hotel should get a facelift, or at least new televisions with a good signal because it was horrible when I was there. The reason why is that there are many newer hotels in the area with similar price points. But of course they can never beat the City Lodge 19's location in the heart of Sukhumvit.

Now originally I booked a superior room for around 1600 Baht or about $55 USD in January 2011. And I got a free upgrade to deluxe. I recently saw that Agoda has discounts for superior rooms at 1300 Baht per night. So if you can get a room that cheap then I'd go for it.
